Managing allergy on educational visits
From September 2026, schools have a legal duty to support pupils with allergies. With 1 to 2 children in every class affected, and education visits bringing unique challenges around food, medication and emergency response, getting this right really matters. This session explores what the new statutory guidance means for education visits specifically, and equips you with the practical tools to manage allergy safely and confidently, wherever you go
Your speaker
Sarah Knight founded The Allergy Team to help schools manage allergies safely and confidently. They work with schools across the UK to reduce risk and improve the safety and wellbeing of pupils with allergies. The Allergy Team were part of the expert group who helped to co-produce the new statutory allergy guidance with the Department for Education, giving Sarah a unique insight into what schools need to do to meet their legal duties from September 2026. They co-authored the Schools Allergy Code — a best practice guide supported by the DfE — and manage the Schools Allergy Register, a certification scheme recognising schools meeting high standards in allergy safety. They have supported thousands of educational staff through Designated Allergy Lead training, whole-staff training, allergy reviews and mentoring.
Sarah's passion for this work is personal: she is the mother of two boys with multiple allergies.
