Proud to be an EVC? Join thousands of EVCs on The EVC Register today

A new register for Educational Visits Coordinators (EVCs) is now live online, with the aim of raising the profile of EVCs and their role in ensuring the safety and effective management of educational visits.

The EVC Register launched with over three thousand EVCs listed, and hundreds more have since joined. The aim is that all trained EVCs will join to provide a single source of reliable and current data on EVCs. The EVC Register is managed and administered by EVOLVE Advice, who also provide advice, support and training to schools related to educational visits. It is integrated with the EVOLVE visit management system. Find out more here.

4 great reasons to join The EVC Register

  1. Demonstrate your commitment to CPD

  2. Easily share and verify your qualification

  3. Raise the profile of EVCs

  4. Champion high standards of training and development

Jake Wiid, Director of EVOLVE Advice says,

“We launched The EVC Register to highlight the importance of the EVC Role and to provide a visible national register for EVCs,

“The EVC Register helps to give EVCs the recognition they deserve and makes it easy for them to share their achievements. With many organisations taking an interest in the role of the EVC, we also wanted to create a simple way for schools, Trusts, and Local Authorities to be able to identify if a school has a suitably trained EVC in post.”

Endorsed by Trusts and Local Authorities

This is the first GB-wide database of EVCs and meets a growing need to understand the level of competent, trained EVCs managing educational visits programmes. Its creators have already had a positive response from EVCs, schools and Local Authorities; over 50 Local Authorities and Trusts have endorsed The EVC Register, and EVOLVE Advice is inviting others in the sector to back it too.

Vince Taylor, Principle Health and Safety Adviser at Leicester City Council said:

“We welcome the launch of The EVC Register. It’s an important resource for us to check the status of trained EVCs in our schools and any EVCs moving from another Authority to ours. All schools should have appropriately trained staff overseeing their educational visits programmes. We applaud the drive to raise and maintain high standards of training to support EVCs in their role.”

EVOLVE Advice trains around 60 EVCs each week, helping to ensure that those responsible for educational visits and learning beyond the classroom are aware of the relevant guidance and legislation, and know how to effectively manage visit programmes and teams to keep children safe.

There are over 30,000 schools in England, Wales and Scotland, each with someone responsible for educational visits. Building a fully national register will take time, but Jake is optimistic about the future:

“With widespread support, I’m sure we’ll see the register grow over time to become a useful tool for everyone involved in learning outside the classroom."

 Shining a spotlight on EVCs

Becky Wigston, EVC at Long Buckby Infant School said:

“I am proud to be on The EVC Register. I am responsible for making sure our visits comply with all the relevant guidance - it’s a big responsibility, particularly the risk management and safeguarding aspects so it’s important for me and the school that I am well-trained and keep my CPD up to date. By joining The EVC Register, I am helping to raise the profile of my role and show how important it is to children’s learning.”

EVCs trained with EVOLVE Advice are automatically added to the register when they successfully complete their training, which is delivered by OEAP Course Directors and accredited by the Institute for Outdoor Learning. However, all EVCs trained by an OEAP Course Director (England & Wales), or approved SAPOE trainer (Scotland), are encouraged to join the register too and their qualification will be verified before being added.

EVCs can register, view and edit their profiles at theevcregister.com.  Alternatively, complete this form to join the register.
